EnviroFuels DFC Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

What are the primary benefits of using EnviroFuels DFC?
Customers using EnviroFuels DFC will realize lower fuel requirements, reduced exhaust gas temperatures, reduced carbon deposits, lower coefficient of friction, and reduced opacity.

There are four primary benefits of using EnviroFuels DFC.

  • First, EnviroFuels DFC improves fuel efficiency, allowing engine operators to either reduce their fuel consumption or realize increased power output from their existing engine fleet.
  • Second, EnviroFuels DFC reduces wear and extends engine component life, allowing engine operators to reduce maintenance expenses and benefit from a more reliable and smoother running engine fleet.
  • Third, EnviroFuels DFC reduces exhaust emissions, allowing engine operators to positively impact the environment and address tightening emissions regulations.
  • Finally, EnviroFuels DFC addresses the operational challenges of alternative fuels by improving lubricity, electrical conductivity, and stability.

Does EnviroFuels DFC change the consistency of diesel once introduced?
No. Tests conducted by an independent laboratory have verified that EnviroFuels DFC does not fundamentally alter the properties of diesel fuel.

How is EnviroFuels DFC different than diesel fuel additives?
EnviroFuels DFC is based on patented technology that is verified by the U.S. EPA. Additives include alcohols, cetane enhancers, simple detergents, or solutions containing heavy metals. Many products available might improve performance in one area while degrading performance in a different area. For example, some products that reduce an engine’s emissions also lower that engine’s power output. EnviroFuels DFC simultaneously improves fuel efficiency and reduces combustion emissions.

What is fuel-borne technology?
EnviroFuels DFC is a fuel-borne technology in that it does not seek to fundamentally alter the quality or characteristics of the fuel. It uses the fuel as a delivery mechanism to positively impact the combustion process and metal surfaces inside the combustion chamber. Additives, on the other hand, typically alter certain chemical properties of the fuel to which they are added.

How much fuel savings is expected from using EnviroFuels DFC?
The amount of fuel savings realized varies based on engine type and engine application. During the U.S. EPA’s Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) testing, EnviroFuels DFC demonstrated between 5 and 10 percent fuel savings on a Tier-0 locomotive. EnviroFuels field tests on engines ranging from oil and gas-drilling rigs to marine applications have indicated similar gains in fuel efficiency.

Does EnviroFuels DFC reduce emissions?
Yes. During the ETV Test, the U.S. EPA verified that EnviroFuels DFC reduced CO2, CO, NOx, total unburned hydrocarbons, and smoking.

Why does EnviroFuels DFC increase horsepower?
EnviroFuels DFC uses both its catalytic and surface conversion effects to positively impact combustion, producing a more efficient combustion reaction. EnviroFuels DFC increases the rate of heat release within the combustion chamber and reduces friction throughout the combustion chamber, enabling the engine to produce more power.

Can EnviroFuels DFC be used with other diesel fuel enhancers?
EnviroFuels DFC will not harm the engine. However, no tests have addressed the performance of EnviroFuels DFC in combination with other products. EnviroFuels considers product compatibility on a case-by-case basis.

Can EnviroFuels DFC be used with low sulfur diesel (LSD) and ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD)?
Yes. EnviroFuels DFC is an excellent choice to use with LSD and ULSD fuels. ULSD fuel is now required for use in highway diesel engines, while it is not currently required for non-highway engines. However, non-highway engines are already affected and receiving ULSD fuel in the diesel fuel supply system.

EnviroFuels DFC is particularly beneficial to engines that are already burning ULSD fuel, as it can address the operational problems posed by ULSD including insufficient lubricity, reduced electrical conductivity, and degraded storage stability.

In multiple ASTM tests, EnviroFuels DFC has restored lubricity and electrical conductivity and stabilized the fuel, protecting diesel engine operators from fuel-related operational upsets.

What equipment or modifications are needed to be able to use EnviroFuels DFC?
No engine modifications are required to use EnviroFuels DFC. Product delivery equipment might be necessary to introduce the EnviroFuels DFC to the fuel, depending on the volume of diesel fuel consumed.

Has EnviroFuels DFC been verified by relevant agencies?
The U.S. EPA, through its ETV program, verified that EnviroFuels DFC improved engine efficiency and reduced emissions on a diesel locomotive.
